Diablo 4: 10 Hidden Quests And Where To Find Them (2024)

There are all kinds of quests in role-playing games. There are the ones that are part of the main storyline, side quests that players can take for extra money or experience, or hidden quests that players can find in the wilderness. Diablo 4 has a healthy selection of all three, and the player usually finds the most interesting quests by accident. Finding these hidden side quests is often more difficult than actually finishing them.

The hidden quests of Sanctuary are often just delivery tasks, in which the player has to go somewhere and find or deliver something to someone. There's always a twist and an interesting story involved. These are often the most satisfying quests to finish in Diablo 4 because finding them is often no more than a happy accident.

Updated on May 24, 2024, by Kristy Ambrose: Diablo 4 has undergone some highly publicized changes since its official release, the most recent being the Loot Reborn event and the launch of Season 4. Once again, a new questline has been introduced that begins with "The Helltide Rises" in Kyovashad as a part of the updated content. Other than some minor aesthetic changes, the obscure, stand-alone side quests are still waiting to be discovered in the same places.

10 The Broken Bear

Pick Up The Dropped Bear Totem

• Where To Turn In: An NPC named Artair in Wraithstead
• Rewards: 30 Renown and some gold

There are plenty of bears wandering in the wilds of eastern Scosglen, and if players happen to be slaying these ursine enemies in the Highland Wilds, a Broken Bear Totem will drop. Killing bears is also a way to farm rawhide and superior leather.

This isn't the only totem that players can find in this area, and if the character hasn't done the "A Different Beast" yet, the Broken Totem drops first. Complete that quest and the next in the chain is "The Broken Bear."

9 Late Shipment

Pick Up The Battered Shipment In Kehjistan

• Where To Turn In: An NPC called Aih'Setal in Geal Kul
• Rewards: Salvage cache and some gold

While destroying human enemies like Scrappers and Throatslitters in the dusty ruins of Kehjistan, one of those enemies might drop a distinctive item called "Battered Shipment." The quest starts as soon as the player loots it, and it appears in their log. The only thing they have to do is return it to the owner.

The NPC's name is Aih'Setal, and he's in the biggest city in Kehjistan, Geal Kul. It's close by on the southern coast. Return it to him and he rewards the player with a Salvage Cache and a handful of gold.

• Rewards: Several gems and Renown

Another great reason to farm iron is the possibility of finding a Gem Laden Geode. This is a random drop that players can find in any iron node in Hawezar.

There's a whole series of quests in this same category that the player can find and start similarly; there are also Ice Laden Geodes and Glittering Geodes, for example. Herbalists farming plants in northern regions can find other rare flowers such as Frostbloom, which start a similar hidden quest that leads back to an NPC in Kyovoshad.

The description of the item itself isn't very specific, saying only that a silversmith with special tools is the only one who can break open the geode and harvest its shiny contents. Check the quest summary where it appears in the log for the "silversmith" in question, who will likely be the nearest Jeweler.

7 The Way of The Three

Use The "Cheer" Emote On Special Statues

• Where To Turn In: Finish all three emotes and the quest completes automatically
• Rewards: A unique rare chest piece, the Hellfire Hauberk

The three, in this case, are the three demonic brothers Mephisto, Baal, and Diablo himself. This is more a collection of Easter eggs than a quest. It consists of finding three hidden statues in various places in Kehjistan and using a certain emote in front of them.

The statue of Diablo is northeast of Geal Kul, on the main floor of an event area. Mephsto's statue is buried in sand outside the town of Denshar, and Baal's altar is in the Altar of Ruin north of the Iron Wolves Encampment. Many D4 quests require a player to use emotes to complete, and in this case, they have to use "cheer" in front of each statue to light the flames at the altars, which appear in the palms of each statue's hands.

Once the player has interacted with all three statues, only then will the quest "The Way of the Three" appear in the log, complete with directions on where to go next. This is where it gets real because the destination is literally Hell. Disrupt a dark ritual, kill the cultists, and receive the unique rare Hellfire Hauberk chest piece as a reward.

6 Exorcists's Cache

Kill Ghosts Until One Of Them Drops This Item

• Rewards: Random rare items including gems, gear, and gold

It's just as pleasant as it sounds, and where it drops is even better. Bundle up in the best furry transmog and head into the Frigid Expanse to kill skeletons and ghosts, and eventually one of them will drop the Sealed Exorcist's Cache.

Once the item is in the character's inventory, it automatically starts the quest to fill it up with anima from the ghosts, undead, and other unpleasant critters in a certain area. They appear as red dots on the map, and once they are killed, the anima shows up as white dots. When the cache is full, the quest is complete, and the player can open it to get their rewards.

5 Message In A Bottle

Explore The Edge Of Razor Shoals

• Where To Turn In: An NPC named Padrig, in the town of Corbach
• Rewards: An ancient and rare Druidic neckpiece

Every role-playing game that has a coastline of some sort is going to have a Message In A Bottle quest, and this is the one for Diablo 4. Head due west from the Drowned Burrow Cellar to the Razor Shoals to find a Washed-Ashore Bottle. It contains a Bundled Heirloom With a Letter, and it's addressed to Padrig, the sender's estranged son, in the small town of Corbach to the south.

The heirloom is an ancient Druidic amulet that Padrag can't use. He gives it to the player as part of their reward, and it's a rare neckpiece that can be worn by anyone to give a boost to elemental damage resistance.

4 To Serve Again

Find The Iron Wolf Sword

• Where To Turn In: Speak to Barez in Caldeum
• Rewards: A cache of useful supplies that includes crafting materials and potions

The Weapon of a Wolf is one of the many variations on the quest that starts in the wilderness with a random drop. Kill enough Triune cultists in Caldeum and loot the Iron Wolf Sword from a corpse, which the player can take to Barez in the Imperial Library. This is the first interaction with this NPC, but it's needed to unlock "To Serve Again," which is only available if the player brings the sword to Barez first.

This time, the aim is to find a set of Iron Wolf Armor, and the player can speak to Barez again to access this quest and finish it. It's a convenient find-and-return task to complete for some extra HP and a helpful cache in a desolate zone that's cruel and unforgiving.

3 Secret Of The Spring

Find A Shabby Note And Read It's Cryptic Message

• Where To Turn In: A treasure chest appears by the spring when the quest is complete
• Rewards: Random materials and potions, gold, some Renown

A few quests require the player to perform a certain action, like an emote at a certain person or object, to either move the task along or complete it. The Secret of the Spring is one such quest, and it can be found directly north of the Cathedral of Light in Kyovashad.

Unlike other hidden quests that start when players pick up a special item, this quest starts with a shabby old note that can be found in a mess of ruined scaffolding. It reads, "Beacon of warmth in winter’s embrace, patience rewarded by nature’s own grace.”

The note contains directions to the spring, which is also in the Frigid Expanse. Upon arrival, the player might have to kill some enemies before they have a chance to emote /Wait as they stand next to the steaming pond. A treasure chest will appear and other rewards include some extra renown for Fractured Peaks.

2 Better Days

Find The Faded Old Painting In The Dobrav Taiga

• Where To Turn In: Zalan Coste at Light's Watch
• Rewards: Local Renown and some gold

One of the better quests when it comes to a stand-alone storyline, but the player has to complete certain prerequisites before Better Days becomes available. It starts when the player loots a Faded Old Painting from an enemy in the Dobrav Taiga, and provided they've already completed Legacies of Light's Watch and interacted with Zalan Coste, they can bring the painting back to him for further information.

Zalan is in Margrave, right where the player left him. He describes it as something subversive that would displease the church and commits to hiding it. This leads to the Unwritten End, another hidden quest in the same zone.

1 Dust Daisy

A Random Drop While Harvesting Herbs

• Where To Turn In: The Alchemist in Ked Bardu
• Rewards: A variety of useful herbs, Renown, and some gold

This quest is difficult to find for a couple of reasons. First of all, the Dust Daisy is a rare plant that spawns very rarely in the isolated reaches of the Kotama Grasslands, and secondly, a character has to be at least level 76 to find it.

The Dry Steppes is a region located on the western side of Sanctuary, and it's one of the few regions in the game that has a mix of mountain, desert, and plains environments, with even a vast spider den in the northern part. The Kotama Grasslands are just north of Ked Bardu, the centrally located main city of the zone.
